Service specifications
3.6L V6
- Filter type
- Cartridge
- Oil capacity (with filter)
- 5.0 qtThis engine drains back into the sump slowly, so straight after a correct fill the dipstick can read LOW — and adding oil to bring it up will overfill the crankcase. FCA issued a bulletin about exactly this: do not add more than the figure above. Give it time to drain back, then check again.
- Change interval (normal)
- Per Oil Change Indicator — max 10,000 mi / 12 mo
- Change interval (severe)
- Indicator shortens the interval automatically; towing and short trips reach it sooner
3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel (EcoDiesel)
- Filter type
- Cartridge
- About this filter
- The 3.0 EcoDiesel came in two generations — GEN-2 in the 2014–2019 Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500, GEN-3 in the 2020-on Ram 1500, Wrangler and Gladiator — and their oil filter cartridges look almost identical but are different designs. FCA warns the wrong one can damage the engine, so match the filter to the generation. On a GEN-3 engine the element and cap are replaced as a set, and GEN-3 needs 5W-40 meeting FCA MS-12991 / API SN, not the GEN-2's diesel-rated CJ-4 oil.
- Oil capacity (with filter)
- 9 qt (8.5 L)FCA prints this as an approximate quantity and tells you to fill one quart at a time and check the dipstick – overfilling aerates the oil, which its own manual warns can damage the engine.
- Change interval (normal)
- Per Oil Change Indicator — max 15,000 mi / 12 mo
- Change interval (severe)
- Indicator shortens the interval automatically; towing and short trips reach it sooner
- Filter housing torque
- 18 ft-lb (25 Nm)
