The 3.0 EcoDiesel came in two generations — GEN-2 in the 2014–2019 Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500, GEN-3 in the 2020-on Ram 1500, Wrangler and Gladiator — and their oil filter cartridges look almost identical but are different designs. FCA warns the wrong one can damage the engine, so match the filter to the generation. On a GEN-3 engine the element and cap are replaced as a set, and GEN-3 needs 5W-40 meeting FCA MS-12991 / API SN, not the GEN-2's diesel-rated CJ-4 oil.
